Schroders’ Head of Global Equities, Alex Tedder, gives his outlook for the year ahead in global equities markets:
- The US is leading the global recovery as the US continues to power ahead – data has been very strong and we expect this to continue in 2015.
- Energy prices have halved over the course of 2014, and this should be supportive for countries like India, Indonesia and Japan that are dependent on oil. However, while the oil price is positive for some emerging market countries, there are others such as Brazil that could suffer from the reduced oil price.
- Weakness in some developed market economies, like Europe is a concern. Europe has been troublesome for some time and we do not see any clear signs of a pick-up – instead there is a real risk of deflation over the course of 2015.
